Full disclosure I’m a big packer fan. But I’m a sober packer fan than a homer. Love has now put 4 really good games together. This last one he played like a legit top 5QB the other 3 games a top 10QB. He has basically an all rookie cast and is growing quickly. I think he gets a 3 year extension soon in the neighborhood of 120-130m. He is on the books for 2024 for 12m making the next 4 years 130-140m.
I don't think GB should give Love an extension this year, specifically because he has that cheap 2024 year already set in stone. Let him play out the next 1.5 seasons and see where he's at going into 2025. Yes there's the risk of Love balling out and raising the cost of a hypothetical extension, but that seems like a small price to pay in exchange for knowing they have the right guy. We've seen several teams give their middling QB's big extensions at the first sign of life, and it always bites them in the ass in the long run.
Do you think Daniel Jones is a league average QB on a horrible team? The problem with the Giants isn’t Daniel Jones. The Giants knew he was a league average QB when then extended him, he still is. Loves floor is likely league average at this point in the out years, so if you can sign him now to that 30-40m per money his upside remains for the packers. If you wait to see what his upside is you are gonna have to pay ALOT more for it as the salary cap grows 14% next year and 10% in 2025
Q>Do you think Daniel Jones is a league average QB on a horrible team?
A>No.
The problem with the Giants is Daniel Jones and lack of good players. i.e. bad roster
>>Loves floor is likely league average
We don't know that. Lets see how he's done at the end of the season. Lets see how he's doing next year. Overpaying 30-40 million is a surefire way to get fired and end up like the Giants with Daniel Jones.
If Love finishes strong, and starts next year ok, then consider extending him.
Fra better to pay a good QB fair market, than to be stuck in a Daniel Jones situation. Pay an extra 6MM/year to a good QB than be stuck with a below average QB. Don't want to end up like the Broncos, having to post June 1 Russel Wilson
Salary cap is projected to grow to $256 in 2024 and then $282m in 2025 from $224m in 2023z Any deal love signs this season likely too be a pretty cheap QB in those years... if you can sign him to a 3 or 4 year extension for top 15 (30-35m per) money now do it....

I forgot how good of a job the Packers did getting him to agree to the two-year deal. Now they have leverage for the extension.

I believe it would be a big mistake to give him a big extension now based on a 4 game streak.
See how he's doing at the start of next year.
If they like how he's playing after a few games, ok, consider an extension.
And I'd still draft a QB if there is one worth the pick.
I have seen QBs "have a good last season" only to be a big disappointment after they got paid. The most recent is Daniel Jones.
It may cost more not extending him, but I'd rather pay a QB several million more, than pay a bad QB 35+ and be locked in for 2-3 years.
It is just going to get more expensive.... they gave Rodgers an extension after 8 games?
Loves and Rodgers stats thru 11 games are almost identical...
So what? It's a small sample size.
It may get a little more expensive, but then it will be worth it, because it means he's good over a long period of time
If he fades you don't want to be in a Giants vs Daniel Jones situation, and be screwed for 3 years

And don’t forget Rodgers had a vet offense playing, driver-Jennings and Ryan Grant and an OL was decent with Clifton Tausch and wells...
Rodgers 7 games in 2008 before his extension on 10/31 were 65% 1668, 12 TDs 4ints 98 rating. Loves last 6 games 64% 1516, 11TDs 4ints 95 rating.
